The new year brought us a lot of good news, and our successful start to the year continues, as we now welcome two new reinforcements to our team.

Lauri Hiilinen, Design Sales Manager, brings his expertise and experience to our sales team, particularly in progressive products. Lauri has a solid background in the fields of sales, design and bathrooms, and he will take the Finnish design message forward with his ironclad professionalism.

Simo Suurkuukka, Project Manager, will strengthen our product development team in developing innovations and in digitalisation projects. Simo’s strong technical education background and experience in the field of HVAC engineering will further reinforce our brilliant product development team and take Vieser to an increasingly innovative future.

Earlier this year, we hired reinforcements for our operations in the other Nordic countries, and now we are increasing our expertise and strengths in Finland. We can hardly wait to see where this year and our new talents will take us.

Finnish company Vieser offers unique design floor drain covers and high-quality floor drain solutions for the needs of construction professionals and interior designers – and to inspire and delight homeowners. The products have been manufactured in Ostrobothnia, Finland, since 1973. Around seven million Vieser floor drains have been installed, and Vieser is active in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Estonia.

Finland has an abundance of outstanding design brands with a strong identity, but, unfortunately, they are not familiar to many people. This idea became the launching pad for the Fintastic concept, a project that will introduce several wonderful Finnish design companies to the Swedish market.

Fintastic brings together seven Finnish brands – Cover Story Paint, Finarte, Woodio, Vieser, Johanna Gullichsen, Ornäs and the designer Hanna Anonen – to create an exhibition for Stockholm Design Week 2022. All seven of the companies will get the opportunity to showcase their most relevant and interesting products at the residence of the Finnish ambassador. The curator of the exhibition is the Swedish stylist Annika Kampmann.

“We are thrilled to be able to present this new wave of Finnish design to the Swedish public. Design is one of the best-known aspects of Finnish culture in Sweden, but many are only aware of the older classics. We now hope that Swedes with an interest in design will discover these contemporary designers and companies working at the highest level,” says Elna Nykänen Andersson, Press and Cultural Councellor for Finland’s Embassy in Stockholm.

The project is the brainchild of Heli Thorén, a Finnish communications consultant from Moon Shooters, and James Stokes, a photographer living in Sweden. The idea is for Stockholm to be the first stop for the exhibition, and for Fintastic to continue to other countries with a new format and composition.

Fintastic will be open from 8 February to 10 February, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the address Västra Trädgårdsgatan 13. By invitation only.

We have great news to kick off the new year! We are expanding the range of our highly successful Vieser Line linear drain covers. Besides the solidly popular tiled version of the Vieser Line drain cover, the range also includes an elegant and timeless stainless-steel cover. The product range is now growing with the addition of new lengths to our Core drain cover models and the launch of a showstopping black option.

Vieser Line Core Black

Vieser Line Core Black is made from strong stainless steel that is powder-coated in black matt. The black drain cover is the perfect complement to black shower heads and fixtures. All Core models are durable and pleasant underfoot, in addition to being safe to stand on, as the cover remains firmly in place and can withstand use in any location in the shower room. Like all our drain covers, from small gratings to large design covers, this product range is also compatible with all our Vieser One floor drains. That means guaranteed usability.

A bathroom without compromises

We have expanded the Core product range to include four size options for more freedom to create a bathroom design with the desired solutions. All Core models are now available in the following lengths: 700, 800, 900, and 1,000 mm.
Both stainless-steel and tiled Vieser Line floor drains can be safely and flexibly located anywhere on a bathroom floor. Next to a wall, near a wall, in the centre of the floor or even multiple drain covers side by side. That means you don’t need to make any compromises in your bathroom’s design.

This autumn we made sustainability one of our strategic spearhead projects. Sustainable development has been a cornerstone of the company since its early days in 1973. We would like to make this project a visible part throughout our entire operations. That is why this Christmas we are doing our part for the climate in the form of a Christmas present.

We made a donation to the John Nurminen Foundation to benefit the Baltic Sea. The Baltic is a beautiful and unique part of our natural heritage, but global warming is a threat to its diversity. The donations to the John Nurminen Foundation’s Christmas campaign will go towards efforts to save the Baltic and its heritage.

We would like to thank all of our customers and partners for the past year and wish everyone a relaxing holiday season and a successful 2022!

Corporate social responsibility and sustainable business were recently made a strategic spearhead project at Vieser. The topic itself is nothing new – it has been part of natural business development and one of Vieser’s cornerstones since day one.

“Vieser’s management is collaborating closely to promote this project. To support this important mission, we joined Green Building Council Finland earlier this autumn,” says Esa Mouhu, Head of Sustainability, R&D and Quality at Vieser.

Green Building Council Finland is a non-profit organisation and a member of the World Green Building Council network. In Finland, the national organisation’s mission is to help make carbon neutral, circular solutions that promote a sustainable lifestyle a natural part of all operations in the real estate and construction sector.

“Membership in Green Building Council Finland sends a strong message of commitment to developing construction and mitigating climate change. Our goal is to participate in the committee work to share best practices and develop the sector together with other industry players. We want to contribute to the promotion of sustainable development through, for example, future material choices. Through the collaboration, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our products,” Mouhu says.

“We all have a responsibility and a role to play in developing sustainable business. At Vieser, we want to actively impact these important issues in our business and processes across the organisation. The Green Building Council is a good forum for us to unite our forces and contribute to this shared mission,” says Vieser’s CEO, Annika Jyllilä -Vertigans.

Corporate social responsibility and sustainable business were recently made a strategic spearhead project at Vieser. Sustainability is nothing new for us – it has been a cornerstone of the company since its early days in 1973.

“Vieser was born in 1973 to solve a concrete problem in the built environment: cast iron floor drains were prone to rusting, and when they leaked, they caused water damage and shortened the life cycle of buildings. Vieser’s floor drains were the answer to that problem. They help prevent water damage and thus lengthen the life cycle of buildings,” says Vieser’s CEO Annika Jyllilä-Vertigans.

Management leads the way

The stance regarding how much the company focuses on sustainability and how much on profit comes from management. The scale is wide, and communicating the target level both internally and externally plays a key role. The stance and communication on it must be clear in order for it to spread to the company’s practical operations. For instance, when employees make material choices, they must know whether they can opt for a more sustainable option, even if it is slightly more expensive.

At Vieser, Esa Mouhu has been appointed Head of Sustainability, R&D and Quality. The company’s management is working closely together to take this project forward. Alongside Mouhu, Vieser’s Head of Portfolio and Strategic Sourcing Janina Ollberg and CEO Annika Jyllilä-Vertigans took part in the Strategic Sustainability for Business programme organised jointly by Aalto EE and UC Berkeley Executive Education in early September. The goal was to gain new perspectives for promoting Vieser’s sustainable business.

“We do have work ahead of us, of course, but we have a solid foundation on which to build. We are on the right path and well-positioned to move forward,” says Mouhu.

The era of sustainability is here

Jyllilä-Vertigans, Mouhu and Ollberg stress that no company can afford to ignore sustainability in their business.

“The climate crisis, biodiversity loss, human rights violations – these issues touch us all. Furthermore, sustainable business is also good business. Investors see a lack of sustainability as a financial risk, which has its cost,” says Jyllilä-Vertigans.

The beautiful boutique hotel has opened at the gates of the old town

The interior alone is an attraction

The centennial Valtimontalo in Porvoo’s Old Town has witnessed a lot in its time. It has housed a printing house, a bank and a cinema. The building has now regained its charming grandeur with the opening of Runo boutique hotel at the beginning of summer.

The mere appearance of the historic building lures you in, but the interior, designed by Joanna Laajisto, is a real attraction in itself. The historical details blend to make a magnificent whole, and the end result is at the same time both stunningly elegant and comfortably cozy.

Luxurious unity with large tiles

The hotel’s style continues in Runo’s rooms where guests can sense the charming serene atmosphere. The bathrooms’ soothing surfaces and elegant details are reminiscent of a spa.

Finnish-made products played a key role in the design. Therefore, the Vieser Line floor drain system was chosen for the shower. The tiled covers blend perfectly into the design. The textured surface of the wall tiles continues on the floor, and the Vieser Line floor drain provides a seamless ensemble. Although the drain is inconspicuous against the beautiful tile surface, it works impeccably and indistinctly.

“When I was choosing the tiled floor drains, there were not very many options to choose from. My criteria were easy maintenance and installation and esthetics. Vieser was the best option for these criteria, so we chose them.

Later, we also found other types of drains at Vieser that perfectly fit the needs of our different facilities. Vieser’s sales and customer service were also memorable.”

Erkka Hirvonen, CEO & general manager,
Runo Hotel

Finland’s most inventive “cold shower”

The attic at Hotel Runo holds a real gem – the Attic Sauna, a rustic experience for all the hotel’s guests. It breathes ambiance and abounds in esthetic and ingenious details.

The shower has a rather inventive “cold shower” in the form of a bucket shower. It is all topped off with the Vieser Square design cover made of Accoya wood. The space arouses all the senses; what would be more thrilling than standing on a warm, comfortable wooden cover while the cold waterfall refreshes you between the steamy stints in the sauna.

A union of design and function

Design has always been an integral part of all our operations. This project is proof that a floor drain cover is not just a technical solution but can be part of a spectacular whole – a beautiful and timeless design product.

Even though we sometimes invest in very bold design solutions, we have never compromised functionality. This characteristic is particularly evident in the hotel. Shower room solutions must be reliable and easy to maintain. Functionality is a key feature of both our design covers and our credited drains.
Easy to install, effortless to clean.
We proudly introduce our own domestic touch to this beautiful and historic whole.

Linear drain saves bathroom dream

A full bathroom makeover. In co-operation with the blog Muotoseikka.

A dream of large tiles

Vilja, a communications professional and author of an interior decoration blog called ‘Muotoseikka’, lives in a detached house in a housing company that faced a familiar situation: shower room renovations. When renovations take place in a housing company, there may be many restrictions, not to mention differences of opinion between the housing company and its residents.

In this case, the dream involved the shower room and large tiles that would continue uniformly along the floors and walls. This presented challenges for the floor drain, however, as it is not easy to visually integrate a traditional small floor drain cover with large tiles, and the harmony of the surfaces may suffer.

The problem and the solution

The only option with large tiles was a linear drain, but the situation was not nearly that simple. In this case, the linear floor drain could not be situated next to the wall, and the tile was not thick enough for the linear floor drain of the originally planned supplier. In addition, it would have required an entirely new HVAC plan, which would have significantly increased the cost of the renovation.

A well-informed contractor and very experienced tilers came to the rescue. They had the idea to use Vieser’s linear drain, thus solving several problems in one go. Vieser’s linear drain can be flexibly situated anywhere in a shower room’s floor, and no exceptional drain system is needed, as Vieser Line is compatible with all of Vieser’s basic drain systems. All that was left to do, then, was to start executing the dream bathroom.

“The solution considerably increased functionality, in addition to which Vieser’s linear drain is really beautiful. After all, if a product can solve technical challenges and is beautiful at the same time, the end result will be very successful.”

Vilja, resident and author of the Muotoseikka blog

Thoughtful planning was well worth it

A new HVAC plan was thus not needed, and everyone involved in the project was convinced of the system’s functionality. The same large tiles could also be extended to the sauna, and a consistent sloped area or so-called ditch system was created in between the drains.

The installation of Vieser’s drains began with precise measurement of the locations of the drains. These traditional drains were cast in their exact places in the shower area and in the sauna. An experienced tiler then did the casting and floor slopes by hand for the entire space. The floors were sloped from the walls toward the drains. Once the waterproofing was completed, the tiling could begin, and the Vieser Line tiled drain covers were laid with the rest of the floor tiles to achieve a consistent and harmonious look. The end result was gorgeous.

Private apartment, terraced house renovation in Helsinki

Show presentation

Vieser, a Finnish company specialising in design floor drains, will be at the Architect@work trade event for architects in Oslo from 29th to 30th September.

The theme of the fair is new innovations. Vieser’s booth features floor drain covers which have been granted, for example, a Fennia Prize honourable mention for their high-quality design. The products to be presented at the booth are the Vieser Dot cover in Accoya wood and the dark Vieser Square cover in Kebony wood. The starting point for the design of the innovations is the longevity, durability and good functionality of the materials in daily use and, as a key element, their eco-friendliness.

Wood is experiencing a new renaissance in interior design. Vieser is the first in the Nordic countries to introduce wood as a floor drain cover material that also meets specific HVAC demands. The products are made of genuine wood, manufactured sustainably, and treated with a natural product. The treatment gives them properties that help them endure in a technically challenging space. The Design products focus strongly on the user experience; the wood surface feels soft and warm underfoot and the water spatters softly on the wooden drain covers, creating a peaceful soundscape. Thus, instead of just routine, each shower moment can be a “me-moment” that makes every day that much more luxurious.

The first-class, meticulous design of the products also allows for freedom of expression. The floor drain cover serves as a design element and is designed to withstand the test of time and changing trends and styles. The modularity of the drain covers brings an added dimension: when making their selection, the only long-term commitment the customer makes is the shape of the cover. As long as the cover is the same shape, the customer can replace the visible part, i.e. the cover, with one of a different colour or material themselves – there is no need to change any other part of the drain – thus avoiding a costly renovation. Tiled versions of the covers of the same shape are also available, as well as other covers of an entirely different shape, such as the linear floor drain Vieser Line.

“We know that ambitious and insightful bathroom design thrives in Norway, and there are a lot of well-informed customers that wish to have beautiful design elements, longevity and sustainable products in their bathrooms. Vieser is able to meet these expectations with its products and provide an exciting option with reliable functionality and easy installation to bathroom interiors in Norway,” says Jens Persson, Head of Sales, Vieser Scandinavia.

Come join us at our booth 82 for a closer look at our products.

The trays and covers for Vieser Line linear drains will now be sold separately

Vieser has renewed the look of the product packages for its Vieser Line linear drain system, and also changed how the products are packaged. From now on, the trays and covers of the system will be sold separately in their own product packages. This makes it easier to create different tray and cover combinations. The look of the packages has also been updated. In addition to the product label, the top of the package now contains an informative product sticker that indicates the product model, length and colour.

In connection with the revamped packaging, we have also launched eccentric trays as new Vieser Line products. With the eccentric trays, the floor drain is located at the end of the tray, which can be set either “right-handed” or “left-handed”.

Codes will change too

Due to the revamped packaging, the product codes will also change – the products themselves, however, will remain the same. The current Vieser Line product packages will be removed from our product range, once our inventory of these packages is sold out.
