Frequently Asked Questions

Are extension rings with side inlets available?

We provide an extension ring with side inlets, version 3×32. Three side inlets of 32 mm can be connected to the extension ring.

Are there spare parts, such as a valve seal or an o-ring, available for the old Vieser air admittance valve?

The Vieser air admittance valve is meant to be used in connection with a vent pipe that vents the air directly outdoors. Where the local sewer works so permit, venting can also be arranged using only an air admittance valve. The air valve must be located so that there is no risk of freezing. The valve must also be located higher than the water level in any of the connected plumbing fixtures. The air valve must be installed in a place where air is readily available.

Are there special water traps available for Vieser’s low floor drains?

There are no special water traps available for Vieser’s low floor drains.

Can the special washbasin water trap be used with a stainless steel basin?

No, the material of stainless steel basins is often too thin to guarantee a tight fit.

Can the white support ring of the extension ring be left out in the installation?

No, it cannot be left out. The purpose of the support ring is to keep the extension ring in the correct shape for its lifetime. Any dimensional changes in the structures must not change the shape of the extension ring.

Can two low extension rings be installed on top of each other? Can a low extension ring be extended with any of the manufacturer’s extension rings?

Two low extension rings cannot be installed on top of each other. (The dimensions at the top of the low extension ring are different from other extension rings or floor drains.)

A low extension ring is always the uppermost extension ring, and it cannot be extended with another extension ring.

Can you install extension rings on top of each other?

You can install no more than two high extension rings on top of each other. You can also extend a high extension ring with a low extension, but not vice versa.

Can you use a Vieser extension ring on an old cast iron floor drain?

Vieser has not tested the solution in question.

How and where can I find the right special water trap for my floor drain?

There are two types of special water traps available for Vieser floor drains. You can distinguish a water trap for Vieser One floor drain from a regular water trap by the large black lifting handle. Both products are available from well-stocked hardware stores and industry wholesalers.

How can I slightly raise a floor drain?

The Vieser low model extension ring is meant for these situations. The package includes a clamping ring, which is used to connect waterproofing to the extension ring. The low model extension ring raises the drain by 12–16 mm. Our high extension ring is suitable when raising the drain by more than 25 mm, and the extension ring with side inlets is meant for raising the drain by more than 66 mm.

How do you connect a PP (polypropylene) floor drain and a PE (polyethylene) drain pipe?

Polyethylene o-ring sleeve. One end is welded using an electrofusion coupler (or a mirror) to the pipeline, and the other end is connected to the drain using an o-ring connection.

How do you install a floor drain in acrylic mass or polyurethane floors?

You can access the waterproofing illustrations and the required parts here:

How does distance ring work?

The Vieser distance ring is placed on the Vieser round grating frame as a tile and bulk floor.

How does the adjustable stainless steel frame work?

To facilitate the installation of the tiles, our adjustable stainless steel frame can be adjusted off the centre of the floor drain by a maximum of 15 mm. The total adjustment range is 30 mm. The frame has an off-centre hole providing the adjustment possibility. The collar installed in the frame is also located off centre, which expands the adjustment range.

How does the water trap with a washing machine funnel work?

The product is meant for connecting a washing machine directly to the sewer line. The washing machine drain hose is connected to the funnel.

I have a beige Upovieser floor drain. Are there spare parts available for it?

Spare parts for the old beige Upovieser drains (1980–1995) are no longer supplied. The production of the drains ended more than 20 years ago, and the manufacture of their spare parts has also ended. A common industry recommendation is to replace old floor drains for which spare parts are no longer available with new ones. In Finland, the type approval regulations for floor drains changed in 1995, and this old type of floor drain does not meet current requirements. As regards renovations, the only secure solution that has been tested is to remove the old drain and install a new, type-approved and certified floor drain.

I have a Vieser drain, and I’m wondering if I should buy a Vieser grating for it?

If you have a Vieser drain, we recommend that you also buy a Vieser grating for it. Our stainless steel grating frame has a small flange to protect waterproofing, ensuring safe installation in accordance with regulations. Guidelines concerning wet rooms (RIL 107 and RT datasheet on wet room structures) state that in the installation of a square grating, waterproofing must not remain exposed, and the water trap must be removable for cleaning.

Is it possible to shorten the side inlets of a Vieser One vertical floor drain if they make the installation more difficult?

If the side inlets are not needed and they cause problems with the installation, it is possible to shorten them or to saw them off (attention must be paid not to make a hole at the inlet). You have to remove the plastic cover from the side inlets, if they are used. In this case it is not necessary, since the side inlets are not used.

The air valve does not work, what is the problem?

There is most likely a blockage in the sewer piping, causing some air to flow back towards the air admittance valve. In this situation, the seal is pressed tighter against the valve. You can verify a blockage using the following test: 1. Remove the air valve from the end of the sewer pipe and place a piece of paper on top of the pipe. 2. Use a connected plumbing fixture; if the piece of paper flies off, there is likely a blockage.

There are rust spots on the underside of the grating, why is that?

For some reason, iron-containing dirt has entered the drain and has stuck to the stainless steel grating. It can, however, be scraped off. The same phenomenon happens, if you leave a wet iron nail on a stainless steel countertop.

There is a foul smell coming from the floor drain, why?

An unpleasant odour may be due to one of the following reasons: the removable water trap is not in place, the drain is dirty or there is no water in the drain. If the floor drain is located in a space where only little water is used, it is possible to install a special water trap in the drain to prevent sewer odours from spreading into the room. The side inlet pipe may also be dirty (e.g. the pipe may have sagged during casting and now collects water -> dirt -> bad odour from the floor drain).

What is the maximum installation height for a Vieser One drain when using support legs?

The maximum installation height for a Vieser One drain support leg is 280 mm.

What is the maximum temperature of water/steam that the floor drain can withstand?

Answer: A polypropylene drain can withstand a continuous water temperature of 85 °C and momentary boiling temperature (100 °C).

What is the size of Vieser stainless steel gratings?

197x197mm Gratings: Grating without frame 190×190, but with grating it is 197x197mm

160x160mm Gratings: Grating without frame 151×151, but with grating it is 160x160mm

What material are the stainless steel gratings made of?

The stainless steel grade used is AISI304. It is not acid-proof stainless steel.

When the Vieser waterproofing membrane flange is used together with a Vieser floor drain, is it necessary to protect the visible part between the frame and the drain’s clamping ring with mortar?

If a Vieser grating with a plastic frame or an adjustable stainless steel frame is installed together with the floor tiling, it is not necessary. The stainless steel frame must be installed so that the membrane flange is covered.

Where can I install the air admittance valve?

The Vieser air admittance valve is meant to be used in connection with a vent pipe that vents the air directly outdoors. Where the local sewer works so permit, venting can also be arranged using only an air admittance valve. The air valve must be located so that there is no risk of freezing.
